The Hive Mapping Cooperative is a partnership of the Chicago Academy of Science and its Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Sweet Water Foundation, and Smart Chicago.
It is an effort to provide teens the ability to collect, manage, analyze, visualize, and share geo-referenced data through open-source mapping and data-sharing software. This project identifies platforms to pilot in existing summer programming and facilitating collaborative youth-guided inquiry, within and across programs, into topics and issues in human ecology and urban ecosystems. By documenting and sharing our work, we will create a toolkit of resources for youth-driven science inquiry that can be shared with other organizations through the Open Science Cooperative.
