We’re gearing up for National Day of Civic Hacking and we’re pleased to announce that several more events have been posted right here in Chicago. We’ve got all the events right here, plus our speakers for the event in the Chicago loop!

National Day of Civic Hacking in the Loop

National Day of Civic Hacking at 1871We’re pleased to announce our speakers for our National Day of Civic Hacking in the Loop.  For this event, we wanted to give attendees a sense of what the day-to-day challenges were in organizations on the front line of civic issues.

We’re pleased to announce our speakers that will give their insight on their challenges:

After the speaking sessions, we’ll form teams and prototype possible solutions to the challenges. This event runs from 8:30 – 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday and you can register here.

Alder Hack for Youth

Youth Hackathon at Adler Planetarium #hackforchange

On May 31 – June 1, 2014, the Adler Planetarium is hosting Civic Hack Day presented by Teza, a science and technology driven global quantitative trading business led by Misha Malyshev, as part of the nation-wide National Day of Civic Hacking. Taking place in major cities throughout the United States and around the world, the National Day of Civic Hacking brings together problem owners and problem solvers to work together in developing solutions to the challenges faced by our local neighborhoods, cities, states and country. Collaboratively participants create, build, and invent using publicly-released data, code and technology. The National Day of Civic Hacking provides citizens an opportunity to do what is most quintessentially American: roll up our sleeves, get involved and work together to improve our society and the place we call home.

Open Hack at Blue1647

Blue1647 is opening it’s doors to civic hackers, community organizers, and neighborhood groups from Monday through Friday during the National Week of Civic Hacking. BLUE1647, located in the Pilsen neighborhood, is an entrepreneurship and technology innovation center focused on education (through classes and workshops), workforce development (through internships), business acceleration (through Hybernate), and economic development in technology and 21st century skills. BLUE1647 supports all forms of entrepreneurship from events, filmmakers, artists, engineers, and designers.

Blue1647 was also the location of last year’s Migrahack which was one of the largest civic hacking events in the country.

Connect Chicago Meetup

This meeting will be focused on the role that public computing centers and community technology centers play in developing digital skills, in building audience for digital tools, and creating a deep bench of civic developers in Chicago’s communities. Danielle DuMerer, Director of Planning, Policy & Management, Department of Innovation & Technology, City of Chicago will be a featured speaker.
